Android users around the world have been holding their breath as to when their device will get an update to Google’s newest release of Android operating system, version 4.4, codenamed KitKat. As for Sony, the list of Xperia devices that will get the update has just grown a little bigger.

Sony has added Xperia ZR, Zperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V to the list of phones that are “under investigation” for an update to KitKat.

The company previously noted that a slew of other devices were confirmed to get the update to Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat update. The list includes Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia SP and Xperia Z1. The newest addition makes a total of 10 Xperia devices that Sony will be releasing Android 4.4 KitKat update for.

There has always been an alternative way to get the latest Android version, though. By installing custom ROM, users have always been able to use the newest version of Android ahead of official release for their device. This, of course, meant that they were voiding their warranty with the manufacturer. Still a lot of people, especially folks who like to do a lot of customization to their phone, prefer to void the warranty in favor of tasting what’s new in the latest version of Android.

What about you? Would you rather wait for the official update or take advantage of custom ROMs once they are available? CyanogenMod recently revealed a list of devices that were going to be officially supported. Let us know what you intend to do with your device.
