Xiaomi Mi 4 is official and has metal frame, replaceable back covers

Xiaomi Mi 4

Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi who pretty much snapped Hugo Berra — Google’s former Chief of Android — has just announced the upcoming phone, Xiaomi Mi 4. Hugo Berra himself posted details about the new and upcoming Mi 4 on Google+, claiming that this is the fastest and most gorgeous Mi phone ever.

Although the full details of the phone has not yet been released, what has already released is pretty interesting nonetheless. The phone features a metal frame which gives it not just a premium look but also very smart. The back cover is plastic, but the good news is, you can replace it with different types of back covers that Xiaomi offers. Some of them are wooden, while others are made of bamboo, leather, and fabric. This gives you the option to replace the default back cover with a unique one that most of your friends probably don’t have.

Now let’s talk about the specifications of Xiaomi Mi 4. The phone sports a 5-inch Full HD IPS display. Under the hood it has a Snapdragon 801 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 13 MP camera on the back and 8 MP camera on the front. The good thing about the cameras is that both of them have a wide aperture of f/1.8. If you’re not into photography, just understand that this feature along is capable of giving you those DSLR-like photos that have the subject in focus and the background blurred. Also, wide aperture means you will be able to shoot great photos in pretty low light situations. Hugo Berra also claims that the cameras are capable of shooting 4K resolution videos. But that’s all too technical right now. We will have to wait until the phone hits the stores to see actually how well the cameras perform.

The phone comes with 3,080 mAh battery that supports quick charging when you need it. It’ll be available in both 16 GB and 64 GB variant, although we wonder why there isn’t a 32 GB model for those who seek it.

Moving on to specs, you get a 5-inch Full HD LCD display, a Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and a choice of 16GB or 64GB of storage. There’s a 13MP f/1.8 camera on the back, while the front sensor is a whopping 8MP, with an f/1.8 lens with 80-degree field of view. The Mi 4 will come with a great 3,080 mAh battery with support for quick charging.

Xiaomi Mi 4 will retail for 1999 yuan (around $320) for the 16GB model while the 64 GB model will go on sale for 2499 yuan (around $400). The phone will reportedly go on sale as early as this month for China Unicom version while another China-bound version will hit the shelves in August.  A 4G version of Xiaomi Mi 4 is expected to launch in September. Sadly though, none of these phones are supposed to be available in European and American markets officially.
