Folks who own a Google Play Edition smartphone are now enjoying the perks of having a Google Play Edition Android phone. Multiple reports on the web confirm that various Google Play Editions of Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One M8 and One M7 have started getting over-the-air update of Android KitKat’s latest release, Android 4.4.3.
The image file of Android 4.4.3 leaked a while ago. Since then, the latest update has been hitting Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 devices. Users of Google Play Edition phones as well as limited users of Motorola’s Moto X, Moto G, and Moto E will soon receive the update via OTA. So keep checking your Google Play Edition phones for updates in the settings.
Motorola says it will release Android 4.4.3 starting next week. But the company announced that some phones will start receiving the update as early as today! Motorola has promised that despite its low-cost Android phone, it will release regular updates to the Moto G and Moto E smartphone. The company apparently has kept its promises and is delivering accordingly.
Only Moto G and Moto E purchased in the US, including the Moto G 4G, will primarily receive the updates. Additionally, Moto G purchased in Brazil will also get this update now. In case of Moto X, only T-Mobile users will receive the update. But it’s safe to assume that these two devices bought from other markets will also receive Android 4.4.3, but at a later time.
While Google Play Edition owners and Moto G and Moto E users can start waiting for the latest update to release for their phones, other non-Google Play Edition smartphones from Samsung, Sony, HTC and other companies may take months before they receive this update. So, if you can’t wait to get updates, you should buy a Google Play Edition smartphone, or if your budget is low, a Moto G/Moto E.
Are you excited about Android 4.4.3? Some users have already been using this update as the factory image file was leaked. Are you one of them?
