Now that fingerprint sensors in digital devices has become mainstream (pretty much so), Samsung is reportedly bringing a new line of Android tablets that will feature a fingerprint sensor. The new line is likely to be called Galaxy Tab S, with the last letter clearly pointing to the unique feature of the tablets in this line-up.
According to SamMobile, the tablets will feature high-resolution AMOLED display at a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels. Samsung’s tablet devices usually feature LCD panel. But this new line of tablets will feature ultra sharp screen that has the unique feature of extra black and slightly increased color saturation.
However, the real deal is the fingerprint sensor that will set the Galaxy Tab S series different from other tablets in the market. Just like their phone counterparts, the fingerprint sensor in Samsung’s tablet will be embedded in the device’s home button. The fingerprint sensor was first introduced in a Samsung mobile with its current flagship phone, Galaxy S5. The accuracy of the fingerprint sensor does have some negative reviews on the web, but its uses are pretty much useful.
SamMobile says that the fingerprint sensor in Galaxy Tab S tablets will have the same functionality like the fingerprint sensor in Samsung Galaxy S5. They include unlocking the phone, making a payment through PayPal, setting up a personal folder that only the fingerprint sensor can enable access to, etc.
Apple has not yet introduced its fingerprint sensors in iPads. The move from Samsung seems like a rush to be the first to bring these technologies to the tablet devices. And if the accuracy is improved, the company may actually win this time. According to sources, the Galaxy Tab S tablets will come in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch versions. However, the price and availability of this new line-up is still unknown.
